Al Hedaya Sunday School Program
“Building a community of spirituality, faith, identity and Compassion since 2006”
Assalaam Alaikum Dear Parents and Students,
The Teachers and Staff at Al Hedaya’s Islamic school are excited as they begin the new 2025-26 academic year building on an exceptional past year of excellence and growth – with the school now serving over 100 children from 9 different towns across the Greater Danbury region supported by over 25 highly trained (Bachelors, Masters, PhD degrees, experienced in teaching at local public schools or Colleges) and committed volunteers – many of whom teaching the community’s children now for over a decade!
From the sincere and sustained efforts of our Teachers and Staff over the last 18 years we are seeing the majority of children we worked with become visibly proud of their Muslim identity, build successful careers and get actively engaged with the communities they live in today – evidence that Islamic education at Hedaya crafted as a partnership between parents, teachers and children responds to the evolving needs and challenges of our times.
Curriculum
The Prophet Mohammad ﷺ said, “I was only sent to perfect good character.” Our custom-crafted curriculum places an emphasis on children understanding, loving, and practicing the inner dimensions of all outward acts of the Prophet’s ﷺ sunnah.
Islamic Studies: Takes students from the basics of Islam to more advanced topics, including references from the Qur’an, seerah of the Prophet(s), and ahadeeth. Each level begins with a presentation of Islamic beliefs based on age-appropriate and graded material. Some topics are covered in multiple levels for added perspective, details, and emphasis. Lessons are devoted to Islamic morals, manners, and values. Topics covered: Aqeedah (understanding Muslim beliefs), Seerah (life of the Prophet PBUH and its relevance), Islamic History, Fiqh (rulings of Islam accompanied with references from the Quran and Sunnah), Adaab (Islamic manners & etiquette).
Quran: The Science of Quran – Perfecting Recitation (Telawa) of the Quran with proper Makhraj and Tajweed. Understanding (Tafseer) and memorization (Hifz) at every level.
Arabic Language: Classes are grouped according to each student’s level of proficiency. The language is taught from the alphabet to words and vocabulary development. Verbal interaction early on strengthens the program, with emphasis on grammar and usage in the upper grades. Formal instruction and evaluation of reading and writing skills in Arabic is provided by a native-Arabic speaking teacher.
